The Irish Association of Healthcare Assistants  (IAHA) is the professional body for Healthcare Assistants (HCAs.) We aim to elevate the professional standard and performance of  HCAs through a formal recognised qualification, continued professional development and advocacy, while striving to build strong alliances with Health Professionals and Agencies to maximise quality care for Service Users. We believe this is achieved through fostering high standards of professional conduct, training and competence among those registered. The IAHA will endeavour to ensure that HCAs are included as valued members of the nursing team.

We appreciate that Healthcare assistants and clinical support workers have started to undertake lot of advanced roles for little or no extra reward; venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, catheterisation, feeding, wound assessments, pressure area care - list is endless.

Healthcare assistants are a vital part of the team, not only for the work they do and the observations they make, but because the whole Healthcare System would fall apart without them!
